We know of 124 journalists who were killed or disappeared without a trace during the wars in Vietnam and Cambodia between May 1954 and April 1975. Death made no distinction between men and women, seasoned professionals and newcomers, or between nationalities or allegiances. These journalists were killed in a variety of ways. They died in the air, on patrols, while driving cars or riding motorbikes. Others were tortured and executed, died of malnutrition after being captured, were murdered while wounded, or killed in their own homes. Some died alone; others alongside friends. This list also includes Cambodian journalists who were tortured and executed or who disappeared without a trace between 1975 and 1978 at the hands of the Khmer Rouge after the war ended.
